You look down at your own mane and feel dissatisfaction. There must be a way for you to make a change and transform your hair from drab to fabulous without spending a fortune.

Aside from this, there are lots of advice you can find out there on how to improve the state of your hair. But you have to be wary of believing just any piece of information you find online. The topic of hair care has many myths and misconceptions. Here are some of them:

1. Washing your hair regularly will make it grow faster.

Treating your hair like a plant won’t produce the same effect you’re expecting. Just as plants are to be watered everyday to make it healthier and grow faster doesn’t mean it’s the same for your hair. Washing your hair daily may take away your hair’s natural oils.

2. Combing your hair frequently will make it healthy and grow faster.

Even today, many girls still believe that brushing 100 times per day will speed up hair growth. Unfortunately, this is not true as it would just result to breakage, or even worse, you may go bald in the future. Only comb your hair when you really need to.

3. Blow-drying is not good for your hair.

We all know that heat damages our hair. So it’s advisable to stop blow-drying your hair. Certainly, this may not be very practical as we live in a world full of priorities and deadlines, and as a result, we tend to speed things up. But if you’re using the right heat protecting products and just being gentle with your hair while blow-drying, it may not be that bad.

4. Worrying too much grows gray hair.

According to Dr. Tyler Cymet, chief of clinical education at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, “The way people are built, our hair is designed to have color for 45 or 50 years”. In other words, your hair will only turn gray when you reach a certain age and will depend on your body’s chemistry.

5. Trimming your hair frequently makes it grow faster.

Nope, it doesn’t. Cutting off the dead ends on your hair won’t really make it grow faster; it’ll only make your hair look healthy. On average, your hair grows about half an inch each month, though this may not be the case for other people as hair growth sometimes depends on a person’s body, age, and lifestyle. Long story short, shampooing everyday, combing everyday, or even having a frequent haircut cannot and will not make your hair grow faster.

The ones mentioned above are just some of the common misconceptions about our hair that many people believe in and should stop believing in. In the end, it doesn’t really matter if you have curly, wavy, short, or thin hair. What matters is how you make it look best as a unique part of yourself.
